The plan was for my husband to have a vasectomy, but the procrastination of the vasectomy got me baby #4. So it was time to take matters in my own hands.
At my first pre-natal visit, before the doctor could say hello, I blurted out, "I want my tubes tied". I have had the most amazing 4 pregnancies and births. I loved being pregnant; it was an experience that I will hold dear to my heart for the rest of my life. But my husband and I felt that a tubal ligation was the best decision for us. With a slew of research, we decided to go ahead with it.
It was done after the birth of my fourth. The day following his birth to be exact. Apparently that is the best time to do it because your uterus is still enlarged enough to push the tubes right at your belly button. All it took was one incision and then snip snip tie tie. There is no way I will get pregnant again. The whole procedure took 30 minutes, then I was back in my hospital room nursing the baby. I was put under anesthesia, so it took about 30 more minutes to come out of that.
The healing time was very minimal, maybe a couple of days. No pain, just very tender. I was able to nurse the baby with no problems.
Before deciding to have the tubal done make sure it is definitely what you want. It is permanent!! Discuss it with your spouse and doctor.
